What a novel solution to a complex problem!

If you were to revisit a JavaScript solution, one tactic might be to remove all but the current page and perhaps the one or more to the right and left from the DOM. jQuery has the .remove() method to make it easy. That should alleviate most of the slowdowns observed at scale. You’d just have to confirm the images load or hard-code the number of pages for a given book (assuming a sequentially-numbered page-image-naming scheme).

Thanks for the suggestion, Brad! As it is, we may have to devise a more elegant solution down the line, and so I’ll take a look at that when the time comes (and I can learn a bit of jscript)

Thank you Perian for your awesome clever solutions.

I used Kiosk Pro, so if you use this one the url link should exclude the local file directory info, simply “filename.html”. We had already purchased kiosk pro, and cool enough you only need to buy it once and you can install on as many devices as you want.

Also be sure to disable zoom functions in kiosk pro preferences and disable multitasking gestures in ipad settings (along with everything else)… I almost let that one slip by me.
