I have just learned that today, March 14, is Pi Day. (And Einstein’s birthday, while we’re at it.) Never knew this particular treat existed. And I love odd holidays.
Yet another excuse to celebrate! Others may eat pie (apparently an authorized celebratory food), but I intend to have 3.14 beers.
Lots of stuff at the Exploratorium site, and pictures of Pi pies on Wikipedia.

We have a pie party – this year was our 2nd annual. I believe I originally heard about it on Science Friday in 2008, they were celebrating with the Exploratorium folks.
wv: explain tamales. Tamales defy explanation, they’re wonderful bundles of tasty goodness!

I enjoyed your Pi Day post! Have you ever heard of Exelauno Day? Exelauno in Greek means to march forth, to march forward or to march out. Hence, March 4th is Exelauno Day. This great tradition hails from my father’s days in the 1930s at Roxbury Latin School near Boston. His Greek teacher used these types of devices to help the students learn vocabulary. This one really stuck. Every March 4th, this teacher would receive post cards from students around the world wishing him well. When my sister and I were young, our father would take us to the local drug store for ice cream sodas. My father was thrilled when I decided to study Greek in college. He made sure that the college cake service delivered a cake decorated with Exelauno Day greetings on March 4th. To this day, my sister and I exchange special greetings on this most auspicious day!
