Mapping MCN

Posted by on Sunday October 28 2007

I’m spending the afternoon getting materials together for a little poster we’ll have at the conference next week that charts the history of MCN over the last 40 years. In a moment of Web 2.0 fueled distraction I decided to throw the list of MCN Conferences and locations into a Google MyMap.

I’m still missing some of the earlier locations and dates. Unfortunately the nearest full run full run of Spectra is hours away. If you happen to have easy access to fill in the blanks send ‘em my way and I’ll update the map as they come in.

Response to the MCN Flickr group has been disappointing so far. The materials from MCN’s early history are…well, less than picturesque. Looks like this will be a pretty straightforward time line of significant dates, etc. I am definitely looking forward to completing my PhD coursework so I can schedule an extended visit to the MCN archives at the Smithsonian…..

What are you looking for? I’ve got Spectra from Fall 1988 to Summer 2000 in my office. I’ve got a bunch of files that I know I promised months ago, but I had a little hard drive issue that caused me some grief, and they’re sitting on a drive unconnected to any machine right now. I can send what I have via email as a series of zipped directories …
