The end is near!

The wire is near, the end is approaching, the sky is falling…well, maybe not yet–but it’s close.

Friday, March 2, is the last day to submit proposals for your sessions, papers, workshops or other presentations for the Museum Computer Network annual conference. This year in November in Chicago, our theme is Building Content, Building Community: 40 Years of Museum Information and Technology.

We are celebrating MCN’s 40th birthday this year by doing what we do best–holding our annual conference, full of opportunities for continued learning, new discoveries, tons of networking opportunities and chances to meet new colleagues.  But you know how the conference content is developed–it comes from you. And you.

Maybe there’s a topic or situation you’re facing at work that you need to know more about.  Or a topic from a previous conference on which you’d like an update. If you’re wondering how to get people and technology to work together, or where to get funding, or lots of of things, chances are you are not alone.  Maybe there’s a conversation on mcn-l that sparked your interest.  Any of these things may be the idea that generates your proposal.  So while you still have a little time to think about it, get busy!

Chicago is a wonderful museum city, as I’m sure you know.  The museum community is widely varied, and the city itself offers many enriching diversions.  Personally I’m looking forward to seeing my old stomping grounds again, especially from the vantage point of our hotel on the Chicago River, with spectacular views of downtown.  From downtown to the wonderful neighborhoods to the lake, Chicago is a city to be enjoyed in lots of different ways (not the least of which is gastronomic). Ahem–after your professional development experience at the conference, of course.

Enough of the sales pitch, now is the last minute you were waiting for to turn in those presentation submissions. You have until midnight Friday, March 2 to get in under the wire.  Go to www.mcn.edu. Why not do it this weekend? You’ll have more time to watch tv next week.  Or make that–catch up on all those articles that are stacking up.
